Operational Program for Fisheries and Sea (OPFS) 2014-2020 (LEADER EMFF)
The Operational Program “for Fisheries and Sea (OPFS) 2014-2020” is one of the most important growth promoting tools of the country.
The fisheries sector is considered to be important for the European and national economy, mainly because it is essentially involved in a variety of processes such as, securing of high biological value animal proteins, exploiting local resources, securing jobs in coastal areas, contributing to maintaining the social and economic cohesion of large coastal and island regions
The main program targets are:
- a) The support of the competiveness of fisheries and aquaculture enterprises and
- b) The protection of the environment and the sustainable exploitation of resources.
The development vision for fisheries in the 2014-2020 programming period is: “Sustainable development of the fisheries sector in the direction of enhancement, competitiveness, environmental protection and as well as maintenance social and economic cohesion”.
Local Program for Fisheries and Sea 2014-2020
The Local Program for Fisheries and Sea 2014-2020 has been approved with 3206/2016 decision of Ministry of Rural Development and Food.
The main objective of the Local Program is the coastal development through the diversification of products / services and the fishery income of the region.
Actions can be financed:
- a) Public interest projects that contribute to the development of fisheries infrastructure (ports, fishing shelters, etc.) and directly or indirectly to serve and improve the quality of life of the local population and to develop the local economy in fishing areas
- b) Private projects from fishermen or not: crafts and small industries, tourism projects, fishing tourism, services, trade, etc
The intervention area is mostly the coastal areas of Ilia Prefecture
